FEATURES & STRENGTHS:ZCMU set up Audiology Major in 2001 and was the first higher education institution opening such subject to undergraduate students in China. FACULTY AND EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES: The teaming team comprises 1 National Excellent Instructor, 2 Zhejiang Provincial Outstanding Instructors, 1 State Council Special Allowance Expert, 1 specially invited chief scientistfrom State 973 Program, and 21 professional instructors, of whom 52% have obtained the senior professional titles and 38% hold a doctoral degree.
Housedin Zhejiang Provincial Laboratory and Teaching Demonstration Center for Hearing and Speech Rehabilitation, it was once selected as a Zhejiang Key Construction Program in the 12th Five Year Plan Period in 2015. It is also a unitappearing on the Prime Minister Initiative (PMI) List, an audiologist joint training base for Chinese PLA General Hospital Institute of Otorhinolaryngology, and also a national vocational skill identification base for hearing-aid consultants. Receiving an annual donation of RMB 1.2 million,it has partnered with a number of tech-oriented enterprises including Starkey,Oticon, Maico, and Huier to build laboratories and to carry out talent joint training and overseas visiting projects.
TEACHING & SERVICES:
1. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: This program is designed to develop talents who grasp basic theories and skills in respect of natural science and humanities, preclinical medicine, and hearing and speech rehabilitation. It is also aimed at building an awareness of social responsibility and dedication in undergraduates and making them competent for future jobs like hearing test and evaluation, hearing loss diagnosis and intervention, speech and language rehabilitation, and hearing equipment installation and commissioning in hospitals, rehabilitation institutions, and hearing-tech-based companies.
2. MAIN COURSES: System anatomy,Physiology, Pathology, Linguistics, Fundamentals of audiology, Diagnosticaudiology, Otorhinolaryngology, Hearing aids, Speech disorder treatment,Language therapy, Vestibular assessment and rehabilitation, Pediatricaudiology, Artificial hearing device implantation, Clinical audiology, Hearing and speech rehabilitation skills and training.
3.EDUCATIONAL SERVICES: The coordination between university,department, and enterprises, the combination of international experience anddomestic situation, and the bridging of education and training to professional jobs help to establish an audiologist training model with Chinese characteristics and in line with Chinese national conditions. We provide a three-dimensional growth platform to undergraduates, including 2% inbound transfer places to the independent college, fund to 5% undergraduates for cross-border exchanges and studies intop Chinese universities, and the admission of outstanding undergraduates to graduate programs without entrance exams. With the options offered, students can choose on their own the academic years of study, the optional courses and instructors, the supervisor with whom they want to complete the thesis(design), and projects that they want to embark on in the laboratory, and have four opportunities to re-choose their majors. Our educational achievements are beingconverted to applications. This specialty has opened 300-odd audiological service agencies across the nation and obtained more than 50 patents. It adopts the enterprise “assist-support-donate” approach to help students and graduates starttheir own businesses, of whom dozens of alumni have succeeded in their startups,and is promoting the innovation of hearing technology and the development ofthe industry.
GRADUATE QUALITY: In recent years, this major has maintained an average employment rate of 95%, with alumni distributing across all kinds of hospitals in ZhejiangProvince, Beijingand Shanghai and well-known tech-oriented corporations like Starkey, Siemens and Huier. As the employers feedback comments, our "graduates maintain a good reputation inthe industry" and are "technically competent and suit the needs of employers".Jiang Wen, a graduate of 2006 of this major and a holder of doctoral degree inaudiology from the University of Florida, is an audiologist serving the ClinicalVertigo and Hearing Center of the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University.
EMPLOYMENT: Audiologist has been ranked in the top5 jobs in the United Statesfor five consecutive years. However it is just emerging in China. There is a huge supply-demand gap in the market and the future is vast. Graduates canengage in jobs relating to hearing and speech disorders prevention,rehabilitation, teaching, and relevant apparatus in hospitals, hearing centers,rehabilitation institutions, hearing-tech enterprises, and related fields.

Medical Laboratory Technology (Four-year Program)
FEATURES & STRENGTHS：ZCMU initially set up Clinical Laboratory MedicineProgram (five-year) in 2001, which was later changed to Medical LaboratoryTechnology (four-year) under the instruction of the Ministry of Education in 2013. Relying on medical technology as a first-rate discipline and the department's authority in granting master's degree in diagnostics of laboratorymedicine, this program has been awarded honors and titles including "ZhejiangEmerging Characteristic Specialty in the 12th Five-Year Plan Period" and "Zhejiang Characteristic Specialty in the 13th Five-Year Plan Period".
The "three-fit-for" concept under the "medical education and practical training combined,university and enterprise coordinated" teaching model, that is, talent trainingfit for jobs, theoretical teaching fit for clinical practice, and curriculum content fit for professional standards, is one of the distinctive features of this major. The "two-walk-into" system, that is, let clinicians walk into classrooms and instructors walk into the clinical system, is another distinctive feature. By integrating resources between the university and affiliated hospitals and setting up a laboratory medicine teaching and research section, it has established a professional training model featuring TCMbackground and the biology-based combination of TCM and western medicine.

GRADUATE QUALITY:Graduates will be offered a bachelor's degree in science when they complete the programand will become suitable for laboratory and related management jobs in hospitals and health inspection departments. A year-around pre-employment strategyhas been put in place and a three-dimensional, full-scale employment guidanceservice system has been established to promote graduates’ employment. Theemployment rate of this program has been maintained as high as 100% in fourconsecutive years, ranking at the top of all programs in ZCMU, providing organizations inside and outside Zhejiang Province with high-quality medical laboratory technicians. In recent years, about 12% graduates of this specialty choose to take the Graduate Candidate Test, rankingfirst in SoMT. Employers also give a high appraisal on our graduates and speakhighly of their practical, research and innovation abilities.
After four years of training in experimental skills and through all kinds of competitions, students are expected to become proficient with common experimental skills required for life science, have certain research andinnovation ability, be able to apply their knowledge and experimental skills to future jobs, and have good adaptability.
EMPLOYEMNT: Graduates can find jobs in clinical laboratory and pathology department of hospitals, blood centers and blood banks, disease prevention and control centers, and inspection and quarantine laboratories, andthird-party testing laboratories.
Health Inspection and Quarantine (Four-year Program)
FEATURES & STRENGTHS: Health Inspectionand Quarantine as a major program was started in 2013 on the basis of years of teaching experience in laboratory medicine (in the direction of healthinspection). Relying onmedical technology as a first-rate discipline and the partnership with Zhejiang Provincial Centerfor Disease Control and Prevention, this major is listed as ZhejiangApplication-Based Pilot Construction Program. Under the "medical education and practical training combined, university andinstitute coordinated" teaching model, it partners with Zhejiang ProvincialCenter for Disease Control and Prevention to develop "result-oriented,high-quality practical talents with job competency in the direction of medicaltechnology". By formulating and improving the talent training program, building college student off-campus training base, carry outing scientific research, and undertaking research tasks jointly, they intend to train undergraduates'professional knowledge, skills, and basic abilities required for scientific research. With a TCM background, this program highlights Chinese herbalmedicine-based inspection and quarantine training.
FACULTY AND EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES: The teaching team of thisdepartment comprises 2 instructors listed in Zhejiang Provincial New Century"151" Talent Program, 1 Zhejiang Provincial Outstanding Instructor, 1 ZhejiangPromising Young Instructor, 10 professional instructors, and 21 visiting professors, of whom 73.3% have obtained the senior professional titles and 56.6% hold a doctoral degree.
We maintain close connections with peer members of the same trade and are one of the members that have completed the compilation of teaching materials for health inspection and quarantine major of higher educational institutions across the nation. We have partnered with Zhejiang Provincial Center forDisease Control and Prevention to build a provincial college student off-campuspractice base, which was listed as one of the "College Student Off-CampusPractice Bases in Zhejiang Province (Medicine)" in 2015. We also have trainingbases established in collaboration with Zhejiang Technology Center for Entry-ExitInspection and Quarantine, Hangzhou Pooke Lab Testing Co., Ltd., HangzhouAnlian Health Test Technology Service Co., Ltd., and so on. The wellestablished and managed laboratory teaching center purposely built for the medical test and quarantine provides students with a sound platform for innovation and practice. FEATURES: Computer Science and Technology as a major program was started in 2001. Relying on medical technology as a first-rate disciplineand its status as a SATCM Key Specialty in Chinese Medicine Informatics, a ZJPATCM Key Specialty in Chinese Medicine Information Management, and a mastersection in Chinese Medicine Informatics, this program is honored with the titleof Zhejiang Characteristic Specialty in the 13th Five-Year Plan Period. By making full use of the university’s advantage in medicine, the program aims at developing IT application-oriented talents with TCM and biological background. It is grounded on the training of students’ job competency and pays attention to the development of their practical applicationability and innovation ability, and has established an all-inclusive, flexible teaching system. It also designs amechanism to promote the development of high quality talents through variouscompetitions and harvests a number of awards and honors. Medical Information Engineering (Four-yearProgram)
FEATURES: Medical Information Engineering is a new interdisciplinary specialty incorporating life science, computer technology,information science and modern management. Initially started in 2012 andrelying on medical technology as a first-rate discipline and its status as a SATCM Key Specialty in Chinese Medicine Informatics, a ZJPATCM Key Specialty inChinese Medicine Information Management, and a master's degree granting stationin Chinese Medicine Informatics, this program focuses on the development ofsoftware development capability, hardware design capability, information processing capability and disciplinary integration ability in students and aimsat nurturing talents in the directions of "medical information system","digital medical image" and "smart medical devices". In collaboration with the information center of the affiliated hospital and other medical software companies, it has formed an industry-academia-research training system inrespect of medical informatics, training practical and interdisciplinary talents for smart medicine and health information sectors.

Among the 27 graduates of 2016,five won the bronze medal in Zhejiang Provincial Collegiate Programming Contest,two won awards in ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest – Asia, and one won the 2nd prize in the Mathematical Modeling Contest. With a 100% employment rate, 15% wererecommended or admitted to graduate programs, 8% found job in hospitals, 74%were employed by medicine-based IT enterprises, and 4% started their own business,with employers including Zhejiang University of Technology, Hangzhou Universityof Electronic Science and Technology, Nanjing University of Science andTechnology, ZKTeco, Tata, Hang Seng, Ewell, and B-Soft.
